James M. Thomas was born in Hackensack, New Jersey, and grew up in the small town of North Arlington. He developed a love for horror at an early age, often telling his teachers tales of monsters, witches and ghosts. Creative writing assignments usually centered around weird and disturbing subject matter. This often resulted in calls home from the school principal. Despite the backlash from teachers, he continued writing, and won his first creative writing award in 1993. In 2003, James earned his first paid writing job with the Canadian horror publication, Thirteen Stories with the short story, In the Playpen of the Dead.
James currently lives with his wife and five children in the mountains of Northern New Jersey. He spends his free time either fishing or playing video games. You can find out more about upcoming books by visiting his facebook page, following on Twitter, or signing up for the mailing list.
